About
La Montagne
(The Mountain)
The La Montagne Inc. Stewardship blog is a dedicated platform for disseminating Land Stewardship information focusing on Prescribed fire. Under the broad ‘Land Stewardship’ umbrella, we delve into policy, laws, cultural connections, indigenous topics, timber harvest, wildland fire, and various prescribed fire topics. Our primary goal is to educate our readers about the climate and forest issues in the West and the importance of prescribed fire in maintaining forest health.
Although this blog will sometimes be very technical, it is targeted at the layperson seeking a deeper knowledge of the topics and my journey in becoming a Burn Boss.
About me, Michael Horn, I’m the chief of this blog, and I bring a wealth of experience to the table. As a 28-year veteran journalist, I have covered various topics, from missing people to presidents, floods, and fires. My current focus is completing a graduate degree in Natural Resources Management, specializing in Fire Ecology. I will fold this knowledge base into a higher level of journalism with the ability to articulate scientific concepts with clarity and understanding. This expertise is channeled into the blog’s mission of educating readers about climate and forest issues in the West and explaining the crucial role of fire in an ecosystem.
I’m based on California’s Central Coast, which gives me a great pivot point north or south. So, I frequently travel across the western states. My aim is to uncover pathways to climate and forest fire resilience and provide educational material on community resilience for teachers and community leaders in these areas.
If you know of a fascinating project or study area, please share it with me. Your input could inspire a new story and contribute to our collective understanding of land stewardship and prescribed fire.
